My resume is posted below, but the rest of the blog contains all of the write-ups I've done on my projects recently. Personal favorites of mine are fixing a derailer and upgrading a headlight, but feel free to look around.

Course Instruction

Bike Culture and Community: Researched and developed course content then co-taught a 20-person class at UCSC on the culture and community of the bicycle. Led a four-person discussion section about providing free mechanical aid to Santa Cruz residents. Developed a grading spreadsheet using Google Docs to allow for collaborative updates and real-time reporting of student grades.

Technical Specialist II April 2011 – Current
REI, Berkeley
Wrote estimates and performed repairs on customer bikes ranging from fixing flats to complete overhauls with custom wheel builds. Fabricated custom parts and modified existing parts to solve specific issues or customer needs. Troubleshooting and restoration of internally geared hubs, particularly those older than ~30 years. Assisting master/certified technicians with teaching classes on bicycle maintenance. Installation and testing of ski and snowboard bindings, maintenance of skis and snowboards, safe operation of base machine.

Mechanic and Instructor September 2009 – November 2010
B&L Bike Shop, Davis
Wrote estimates and performed repairs on customer bikes ranging from fixing flats to complete overhauls with custom wheel builds. Fabricated custom parts and modified existing parts to solve specific issues or customer needs. Suggested and implemented basic mechanical skill classes for customers. Created lessons targeted at the skill level and interest of the customers, using original and existing resources. Taught classes to small groups and helped other mechanics learn new skills.

Bike Coop Volunteer June 2008 – June 2009
Santa Cruz Campus Bike Center
Staffed a full-service bike shop, worked with the co-owners to provide instruction, repair services and part orders to community members. Worked events that promoted cycling including Bike to Work Day. Promoted safe cycling skills, and recommended safe routes to campus. Secured donations from campus organizations, and budgeted for the maintenance of shop equipment.

Student Technician June 2008 – June 2009
Instructional Computing, UCSC
Hardware and software troubleshooting across PC and Mac platforms, testing and installing new hardware, testing software. Mounting and testing security devices, including modifying device casings and cables. Provided phone and email support to student consultants and other Instructional Computing staff. Created internal test documents and procedures, and contributed to the staff wiki.

Student Consultant September 2007 – June 2008
Instructional Computing, UCSC
Provided assistance to customers in using computer equipment and software (PC and Mac) at the on-campus computer labs. Assisted lecturers with embedded presentation tech. Required knowledge of supported software, class registration, and learning management systems. Maintained lab organization and cleanliness.

Summer Paint Crew Lead June 2007 – September 2007
Crown College, UCSC
Managed the daily operation of a 15-person crew, generally without direct supervision. Tracked supply use and forecast needs. Successfully repainted ~288 dorm rooms over the summer break on time and on budget.
